For the 25th birthday of Martin House Children’s Hospice they wanted to celebrate by commissioning a range of sculpture’s for their garden. They asked me to come for a visit to see the wood there was to work with and have a tour, I have to say I was amazed by the whole place they have made it into such a haven for the children and families which sadly have to visit them.
A number of trees had been recently been taken down and kept to make use of, which fortunately were suitable for the sculptures they had in mind. The idea was to create 25 numbered sculptures one for each year of the 25 years the hospice had been running (its a bit over that now) and to make things which somehow represent elements of Martin House and it’s community. Each sculpture was mounted on a wooden spike to ensure that the sculptures stay stable in the garden.
