After spending so much time in Spain me and my fiancee decided that our engagement party should have a bit of a Spanish theme to it,and what better than to have the food served on personalised tapas boards. The idea was that each guest could also write a message on the back of the boards and these would one day be displayed in our house.
I decided to use oak and to create a branding iron so that I could produce a large volume of the boards. I started by sketching out the rough design which is the initials of our first names in a monogram style.
To create the branding iron I used a small piece of brass plate and cut out the pattern with a dremel.
To heat up the brand I originally tried a blow torch, I found that with the cold climate the temperature was being lost too quickly so put the brand on a barbecue to help keep some of the heat.
It took quite a while to produce all the boards and they were not all perfectly uniform but I don’t think it detracts too much.
